Shelfspace came from a fascination of mine for knowing what books other people enjoyed reading. GoodReads has a monopoly on the space currently, and I thought creating an open-source project based on RSS feeds would be a valuable way for people to own their own collection, and share it either through the ShelfSpace site or through their own website via an API. People can "follow" other people's shelves, and book notes can be added through each entry. It's possible to create multiple "shelves', ie for an antilibrary, a book wishlist, or a special recommendations list. Sharing links are open access unless noted as private.
