Venice

These design studies of Venice culminated in a library design proposal for the Università Ca' Foscari, and the process drawings were exhibited in a gallery at the University of Virginia School of Architecture.

These 3 months of study in Venice are a resource of knowledge about the place - but also delving into the process of how to study any place. Designare in Italian means both to draw and to design. These series of sketches explore designare in tandem. They are interrogations of Venice through the re-assembly of architectural elements to conceive of the whole. These studies of the city are a means of designing for the present and future of the city, as it faces tremendous issues with climate change and hypertourism. The sketches and drawings resulting from this formal process lead to a proposal for the responsible design of Ca' Foscari in Venice, a university expanding throughout the city.
